The Feel-Good Morning Routine
(For Mums Without Time for One)
Mornings as a mum? Let's be honest, they're not peaceful, slow, or Insta-perfect. They're messy, loud, and full of tiny humans asking for snacks before the sun is up.
You barely have time to drink your coffee warm, let alone squeeze in a whole self-care routine. But what if feeling good in the morning didn't mean doing more, just doing things differently?
Here's how to sneak in some small, guilt-free, feel-good moments without adding extra stress to your morning rush:
1. Hydrate (No, Coffee Doesn't Count)
Before you grab your caffeine fix, drink water. Even better? Squeeze a little lemon in it to get the digestion going. This is particularly effective for those of you with oily or acne-prone skin.
2. The 60-Second Skincare Ritual
Forget that 10-step routine that keeps coming up in your feed. This bare-minimum routine can be your ritual and will still leave you looking (and feeling) fresh:
-
Wash your face – Even while the kids brush their teeth or you're waiting to wipe their bottoms, because yay! They're using the potty.
-
Spritz a face mist – Feels like a spa moment, even in the school drop-off line.
-
Slap on some moisturiser – Done in 5 seconds - including your decolletage.
Pro tip: Keep your skincare visible, even by the coffee machine can help you remember. And, if there’s a lineup for the bathroom, don’t forget about the kitchen sink. We do whatever works.
3. Move (In Whatever Way You Can)
No time for a morning workout? No problem. Try:
🌞 (Early risers?) Morning baby yoga! (It's a thing)
🚶♀️ Walking the kids to school or to the bus stop.
💃 Dancing in the kitchen while making breakfast (toddlers love this!)
🤸♀️ Squatting while the kettle boils. (Toddlers also think this is pretty funny. Even funnier if you pull a face while doing it.)
It all counts, and many smaller children will love to show off their flexibility or dance moves! Teenagers...not so much, but good luck!
4. Find Your 30-Second Calm
You don't need an entire meditation session. Just one of these will do:
-
Take a deep breath before that first sip of coffee. Take notice of all your senses: see, smell, hear, taste and feel.
-
Sit in the car for 10 seconds before heading to work or running errands.
-
Play your music for 5 minutes, just one song you love instead of Baby Shark on repeat.
5. Eat Something (Yes, You Too!)
The kids eat breakfast? So should you. A smoothie you can sip while packing lunchboxes? That counts. A banana grabbed on the go? That counts. Leftover crusts from their toast? Okay, maybe not.
6. Share the Love
Nothing feels better than sharing what makes you feel good with your friends and family. We're all in this together, after all.
One simple way to bring a moment of connection into your morning routine is by sharing a little self-care with those around you. Whether passing the Tone & Refresh Mist to your friend at school drop-off for a quick spritz or letting your little ones join in by spraying it in the air and walking underneath it together.
Sharing your morning ritual is an easy way to slow down and spread a little positivity. These little moments can make the morning feel a bit more special, and who doesn't love a good refresh?
